Teaching in PG

Our week is PG was UNREAL. The kids, the teachers and the communities were so welcoming. Chantel and Rachael caught the 6 am bus out of Punta Gorda early Monday morning, headed for a community called Medina Bank. On the bank of a cool, clear spring that supplied the community with water for drinking, cooking and bathing- Medina Bank Primary served the 75 students of this tiny Mayan village surviving off the grid. Week 3: Welcome to Punta Gorda

Greetings from the crew in Punta Gorda! On Thursday we taught our last lessons in Belize City. Friday was Teacher’s Day, so all schools were closed. We taught our final classes at a newer school, tiny by comparison, called Unity Presbyterian Primary. The school had classes starting  at Infant 1 (grade 1) through only to Standard 5. Week 2: Belize District!

Since our last post, we finished up teaching in the Cayo district. Again the first school we taught was Mount Carmel Primary School in Benque. We then moved to Succotz Primary School in Succotz, Clarissa Falls Primary in Clarissa Falls and finally Eden Primary School in Santa Elena. First few days in beautiful Belize!

Yesterday the Peer education group was sent to 2 different schools in the Cayo District – Sacred Heart Junior College and High School and Mont Carmel Secondary School. The day started off by meeting with the councilors and arranging our schedules to come in and peer educate. First Day of Teaching

We have now been in Belize just shy of 4 days, and have finished our first day of teaching. The weather was a welcome surprise as we stepped out of the plane onto the tarmack, the blast of warmth and humididty was certainly a change from the currently unpredictable weather back home in Kingston.
