Primary is Getting Wet (But Not Wild) in Belize City!

We finished up with a busy last week in Orange Walk. Even though this week was a little different for primary, as Emily and Kathleen taught in a high school, everyone had a great time and was sad to say goodbye. Emily and Kathleen taught at Bishop Martin Roman Catholic High School for the week, and although it brought new challenges, they embraced the experience. They focused their lessons on leadership, conflict resolution, teamwork, and healthy relationships, which the students […]

Big Ups and farewell to Belize City!

Two weeks here in Belize City have flown by faster than we scarf down our daily rice and beans! Though time is going quickly, this past week has probably been our busiest and most productive yet. This past Saturday, QHO made its first Belizean TV debut! The BFLA Youth Advocacy Movement (YAM) produces a weekly TV show called BigChatz on Love TV. The show was wrapping up its fourth season on Saturday and we were lucky enough to be invited […]

Primary is Halfway There!

Hard to believe we’re already halfway done! We have loved every minute of our time in Belize, and it’s sad to think that we only have three weeks left of teaching. Even though last week was short, we still had two great experiences at San Lazaro and San Pablo. Emily and Kathleen spent the week with the students at San Pablo Community School, and although the school had other activities planned for the week so Kathleen and Emily didn’t teach […]

Busy Bees in Belize City

Hello from Belize City! So much has happened since our arrival in Belize City on Sunday. We started the week by visiting the YWCA to introduce ourselves to the girls that we teach for 2 hours every morning. The school is vocation-based and girls of all backgrounds follow courses in cosmetology, cooking and aesthetics. This amazing group has girls ranging from 10 to 18 years of age and is creative, talkative and full of energy. We look forward to another […]

Primary is Turning Orange in Orange Walk!

It was a bittersweet final week in Dangriga. Teaching at St. Augustine and St. Matthews was a great success as we taught almost all of our lessons to the standard 4, 5 and 6 classes. Erica and Emily at St. Augustine had the opportunity to teach our new mental health and gang violence lessons, which was exciting for them as these are both brand new lessons that we implemented this year. Both lessons sparked a lot of conversation, and we […]

The Hills are Alive in Stann Creek!

This past week finished with great success as Alex and Kathleen taught all their lessons to the older Standards at Zion school. The Standard 6s were busily preparing for their national test on Monday, but we taught a quick stress management lesson which will hopefully be of use. Erica and Emily were able to teach in the Special Education class at Sacred Heart school all week. They taught topics such as puberty, substance abuse, and self esteem. The children were […]

Sunburns, Swollen Feet and Smiles in San Ignacio!

Hello friends and family, We are writing to you from beautiful San Ignacio. It has been a busy first week since we left the Primary Team at the Belmopan bus terminal. On Monday morning we made a visit to Dolly Witz at the Belize Family Life Association (BLFA). She helped us organize our open day for this coming Friday and got us in contact with several schools in the area that will be joining us for a fun-filled day of […]
