The Last Plaintain Chip

And just like a bag of Plaintain chips, here we are at the end of our initiative, both satisfied (of what we have been able to accomplish) and sad (that it is over). The 6 weeks sure felt as quick as a bag of chips. It seems just yesterday that we were all geared up to head to Belize from Pearson International Airport. Well, hold on to your seats for our one last blast of a blog post! This week […]

6 weeks, 5 iguana scares, 4 PEs, 3 districts, 2 tapirs spotted and 1 lifetime of memories.

7 months ago 4 strangers were chosen to be peer educators in Belizian primary schools. One young murse(male nurse), one wise graduate, and two wittle baby Lauras bonded together to form what would later be describe as the ultimate fantastic dream team. They heard tales of the heat, the infamous terrifying question box, and mountains of rice and beans they must face..and now 7 months and 6 weeks later, they come to you(much more tanned) with all their stories and […]

Not too often do you get all this neatness in one location

Hello all! Primary has had an exciting and busy week in Dangriga, the Culture Capital of Belize. On top of our regular teaching, we have been Immensely involved in the community these past few days. On Tuesday, Marshal, the Health and Family Life Education (HFLE) coordinator at the Education board, asked us to sit at the Education table at the annual Public Service Information Day. The 4 of us answered questions any students had involving HFLE and got to mingle […]

You can tell this is a blog by the way it is. Pretty neat!

All four of us have had the opportunity to work at the YWCA every morning this week and we absolutely love it! The YWCA has a special “HELP” program (Helping Early Leavers Program) for young women which helps them transition back into high school or into the working world. The girls do a half day of life skills, English and math and spend the rest of the day focusing on certain skills; cooking, sewing or cosmetology.   This week was all […]

Reunited and it feels so good!

Can’t believe we have already come to the end of our 2nd leg of our initiative in Dangriga!  This week Kathleen and James continued on at Ecumenical High School. Being in first and third form classes all week, we spoke about Healthy Sexual Relationships and Substance Use and Abuse. The students, especially the third forms, had a very high level of understanding for both topics. Having recognized this, we promoted more discussion based classes where students were encouraged to ask […]

All aboard the Tuff Love 2! (The name of our school bus) Hop on this stylish bus with Jesse and […]

That’s the way uh-huh uh-huh I like it uh-huh uh-huh

Today marks the halfway point of our initiative, and the end of the first week we were left to fend for ourselves since our wonderful Program Director Meg went home on Monday. We think we did pretty well on our own if we do say so ourselves (miss you Meg)! As you can see from our funky title, we learned some great hand-clapping games and songs from the students at St Luke’s Methodist School. QHO Belize Primary has a growing […]
